The mentor responsabilities


In a mentoring relationship, it is important for mentors to listen and be open to helping their mentee to the best of their ability.

The following is a list of the mentor's main responsibilities:

  • Being positive and generous
  • Benevolent (confirms the other in what he is and what he is becoming)
  • Does not trap the other person in his or her judgments and demands
  • Good communication skills
  • Asks questions that will help the mentee progress
  • Is available, proactive
  • Able to anticipate mentee’s needs

Characteristics of a good mentor:

  • Positive attitude at all times
  • Demonstrates active listening and empathy
  • Genuine curiosity about his/her mentee
  • Leads to solutions
  • Patient about progress and obstacles
  • Honest and unbiased, tells the truth

  • Motivating: inspires action and rejoices in successes
